We're supposedly to go on Thursday. I need a good backpack. My last one...broke...while we were there. I hope it doesn't rain, and that no big cold gusty winds come up. It seems that every time we go to the Island, we end up walking around in this really cold damp wind.

On the other hand, I hope I don't fry, either!

Someone I write to online expressed an interest in coming along. ? Number one, it's short notice, and number two...I'm of the mind you should not meet with people you've met only online! ^_^; Eh, he won't show up anyway, it's a long trip and he would have no idea where to go...by Thursday morning, no less!

Would've been nice to show him the Island, though.

I hope we have enough time to look at everything.

I finished Part 32 of my story, need to proofread it. FFN is STILL down. Kinda stupid that they went down just as I came up with a new part to my story which hasn't been updated there in ages!

I have to re-apply to a webring that deleted itself and started anew at Ringsurf. (RingSurf?) I'm not sure how to do it, they don't seem to say to put the code on your page...I think it's dumb to put the code on your page FIRST, in order to be accepted--having that stuff on your page is like you've BEEN accepted already! Kind of backwards, I think.

(I THINK that's all of them...)

I used to belong to a GeoCities one but all of a sudden I got this e-mail saying, "We're sorry you decided to quit!" (WTF??--I never quit!!) and then when I went to the Group there were only ten members (I KNOW there were more before!), around 80 messages (ditto!) and it had been restricted, with a notice saying something like "Closed until further notice!" Well, gee, guys, thank you very much for the warning. Idiots. I go there to keep updated and possibly GET HELP! when I'm having trouble with GeoCities, and then I get this crap. They could at least have let us know WHY they were kicking us out, or have changed their goodbye letter to reflect the fact that, HELLO, we didn't quit!!

Well, bla, these are the things you do when you're bored.

I should really type up the dream I had last night, can't remember much of it now...

A Club I was invited to a while back where the guy plugged my story, a Club for black writers (and I'm not black--but I've mentioned that), in there the guy who invited me provided a link to an article about sex in ancient Egypt. "Is this really what we blacks want to claim as our legacy of ancient Egypt? Whatever," he said. I read it, and found that while interesting, most of it I knew already. Somebody else replied to his post with "I know many of the myths and the characters involved, but I've never heard of any of these! The author makes it seem more perverse than it really was, with an emphasis on sex alone and none of the symbolic qualities. Of course the people had sex, but when it comes to the gods, I think that should be left alone."

I REALLY wish I had the guts to join and reply!

* If you've never heard of these particular myths, then you haven't read around enough. I'm only 24 and I've heard of most of this stuff (e. g., Set trying to have sex with Horus--and NO that is not in my story!!). It's not new to me.

* I read it, and the author didn't make it seem more perverse than it already was. She just emphasized the sex aspect--because that was what the article was about! She did point out that Set attacked Horus not out of lust, but because he wanted to show his power over his nephew--where was she avoiding the symbolic aspects of the mythology?

* Um, exsqueeze me, but...WHY should the sex lives of the gods be left alone? The Greek gods did it all the time and those myths are there for anybody to read. Sheesh, take a look at Zeus, the man-whore. (God-whore? Whatever...) Notice: THE EGYPTIAN GODS HAD SEX TOO. LOTS OF IT! There was infidelity and incest and rape and masturbation and homosexuality up the wazoo. Just take a closer look at the mythology! If you've never noticed it before, you either weren't looking hard enough, or you were wearing blinders. Whichever it was...the Egyptians weren't ashamed of sex. Neither were they ashamed of using sex to explain how their gods came about (well, when Ra had no wife, how ELSE was he supposed to have kids??), and the things that their gods did--it was NOT taboo. So--you were very quick to say that you weren't prudish, you knew the "Egyptians had sex"--so why is it so bad to imagine their GODS doing the same thing?

Picky, picky, picky...

But I won't bother replying to her--I'm not black--and I know from the tone of my entry here, I would not be welcome to counter her message!!

Bla bla, whatever, nobody's gonna read this wonderful entry anyway. Pity, since it was such a good one, too. IMHO, of course. ;P
