Kemet Ideas

12-26-02 @ 6:45 am EST

I'm going to delete my "Kemet Ideas" item because nobody ever offers me any ideas for it, but I want to keep it for my own reference so I'll post it here. I keep coming across people on this site and others who say they like Egyptian mythology, but I seem to be the only one who can prove it. This list is still open to suggestions from anyone who may have any.

KEMET IDEAS

I'm currently working on a series of stories loosely based on ancient Egyptian mythology. In the hopes of coming up with more ideas, I browsed mythology books for myths I'd never heard of before, as I've already written a version of the primary Egyptian myth of Horus vs. Set (Horus) and am planning to someday write a novel-length version of the second most-known myth, the Destruction of Mankind. In short--I want to do something that hasn't been done yet, or that hasn't been done very much. :)

I wrote several stories about ten years ago and have rewritten these; I've also come up with some new ones. So far, I have nineteen finished. I have a list of other possible ideas, and would be much interested in hearing more. I have a survey set up so anyone can help me if they wish. If anybody were to have an idea that truly makes me slap my head and say, "Wow, I HAVE to write about THAT!" I would even consider giving them gift points. :)

Here is the survey, if you want to see it:

Title: The Story Idea Survey!
Description: Can you help me come up with story ideas?
By: Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight

Only two replies so far, so if you have ideas I don't mind seeing them! :)

Now here, to keep my own mind straight, is the list of ideas I've been considering working on. This was typed up a couple of months ago at the least, and some of these ideas have since been changed or completed. I'll state the status of each idea after it's given. If any of them strike you as interesting, let me know and maybe I can get writing on them sooner! :)

KEMET STORY IDEAS

These are my planned novels based on Egyptian mythology:

Osiris (based on the myth of the life and death of Osiris) (This is a novel in progress, about halfway done.)

Horus (based on the myth of the battle of Horus and Set) (This is a finished novel. You can view it here: Horus)

Kingdom Of The Hawk (based on the myth of Set versus the sea) (This is a partially plotted novel which so far is unwritten.)

The Rebel Prince (original myth about Anubis ruling Kemet, out of continuity) (This is an unwritten novel in the ideas stage.)

City Of The Sun (based on the myth of Ra's destruction of mankind) (This is an unwritten novel in the ideas stage, though three short stories/novellas were written on this theme about ten years ago and will be combined/edited for the new version.)

* * * * *

In addition, there are these "short" stories or novellas from the original City Of The Sun, now a scrapped effort:

Three stories from City Of The Sun:

The Name Of Ra
The Destruction
The Staff Of The Eight

--will be combined into the new City Of The Sun (novel) and are based on the myth of Ra's destruction of mankind.

Kebehut from City Of The Sun has been rewritten; this is an original myth about the birth of Anubis's daughter.

ID: 280535 (Rated: PG-13)
Title: Kebehut
Description: What happens when the god of death falls in love...with a mortal? An original myth.
By: Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight

Two stories from City Of The Sun:

The Beginning
Brothers

--have been changed by the Osiris/Horus storyline and are being deleted entirely; they were based on the myth of Anubis's birth, and an original myth about Anubis's and Horus's friendship.

Sobek from City Of The Sun has been rewritten and retitled; this is an original myth about the creation of Sobek to marry Hathor.

ID: 255895 (Rated: PG)
Title: Sobek & Hathor
Description: What happens when the goddess of love doesn't WANT to fall in love? An original myth.
By: Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight

Sovereignty from City Of The Sun has been rewritten; this is based on the myth of the birth of Hu and Sia.

ID: 376135 (Rated: PG-13)
Title: Sovereignty
Description: Despair can lead to drastic acts...but what do THEY lead to? An original myth.
By: Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight

I Shot An Arrow Into The Air... from City Of The Sun has been rewritten; this is an original myth about Khenti Amenti and Hathor's arrows of love.

ID: 357446 (Rated: PG)
Title: I Shot An Arrow Into The Air...
Description: Love is a dangerous thing...especially in the wrong hands! An original myth.
By: Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight

The Price Of Forgetfulness from City Of The Sun has been rewritten; this is an original myth about Asutet and the river god Hapi.

ID: 408797 (Rated: PG-13)
Title: The Price Of Forgetfulness
Description: What if the enemy of your enemy...is an angry god bent on revenge? An original myth.
By: Tehuti, Lord Of The Eight

As all original stories from City Of The Sun have now been rewritten, some new ideas may be worked on.

* * * * *

I would like to eventually write up some other stories based on actual myths or on original myths (that is, myths of my own creation). Here are some likely candidates, some of them already listed above, the rest of them original ideas which have not been written before. (All titles are tentative and will most likely not remain!)

STORY SYNOPSES

Antakh Of The Apsiu (non-neteru): The Apsiu Antakh, raised among humans, masquerades among his own kind as an elite Kana, all the while preparing the slave Moru for a risky escape. (This is currently being rewritten.)

Apophis's Day On Earth: Apesh grants Apophis human form so he may roam about on earth; he accosts and assaults the goddess Maftet, but when the sun rises he can't tolerate the light, and has to return to the underworld. (This has been written: Apophis's Day On Earth)

Baby Love: See Young Hathor.

The Beginning: Nephthys, in an attempt to give Set a son, presents him with Anubis--at which her husband furiously leaves the palace. She discovers that Osiris is in fact his father, and the gods decide to keep this a secret, while Osiris and Isis raise the baby Anubis as their own. (This story was edited and included in the unfinished novel Osiris.)

Birth Of A God: See Upuat's Birth.

Blind To Love: See Khnum & Sati.

Brothers: Anubis discovers his true parentage and has a jealous falling out with his half-brother Horus, until the other god decides to make amends. (This has been completely scrapped and will not be rewritten as it was, though a different version is possible.)

The Children Of Upuat: In a different continuity, Anubis travels to Keben to seek the souls of the previously unknown children of Upuat, to bring them back to Kemet. (This has been retitled and written: Secret Children)

Coming Home: Set in the different continuity of The Rebel Prince, Bastet waits at home for Anubis to return to her. (This has been written: Coming Home)

The Daughter Of Osiris: Uncertain original myth about the little-known "daughter of Osiris." (This would most likely be out of continuity, as in my mythology Osiris has no daughters.) (This has not been written.)

The Daughter Of Set: In a different continuity taking place after Kingdom Of The Hawk, Astarte travels to Kemet to present a baby to Nephthys--the daughter of Set. (This has been retitled and written: She Is Yours)

The Daughter Of Set 2: Another story about the out-of-continuity daughter of Set, this time with her as a teenager or young adult. It could possibly be a romance between her and Imseti, son of Horus. (Intriguing! ;) ) (This has not been written.)

The Destruction: During Ra's illness, mortals began to revolt; now he sends Hathor to destroy them. Warned by Thoth, some of the more virtuous humans try to escape to the Delta, facing danger along the way. Ra tries to regain control of the rampaging Hathor in order to spare what little of mankind is left. (This will end up a part of the novel City Of The Sun.)

Escape: See Upuat's Escape.

The First Priestess Of Upuat: After an attack, a woman believes she's been chosen to represent the "new" god Upuat on earth, and establishes his first temple. (This has been written: The First Priestess Of Upuat)

First Wife: Nebhet Hotep discovers that her husband, God Ra, intends to take a second wife--and violence of a different sort ensues. (This was written in response to a prompt: First Wife)

Geb & Osiris: Geb accidentally kills his own son, and hastily brings him back to life, attempting a coverup. (In the original myth, Osiris rebelled against Geb and was killed; in my mythology, Osiris is too peaceful for that, so the death will likely be accidental.) (This has not been written.)

Geb's Revolt: Geb revolts against the rulership of Shu, with devastating results for both of them. (In the original myth, Geb was the son of Shu, and rebelled against his father; in my mythology they are brothers, so he would have to turn on his brother.) (This has not been written.)

Hathor & Horus: Having vowed to never marry any man, Hathor inadvertently falls in love with the young king Horus--and has to ask his parents' permission to marry him. (This has been retitled and written: 'Tis Better To Have Loved)

Horus & The Fish Of Ra: The child Horus slays the sacred fish of Ra, but somehow escapes punishment. (In my mythology this act may end up being committed instead by Imseti or Ihi.) (This has not been written.)

Horus's Wives: A minor wife of Horus insults the great wife Hathor, who of course seeks revenge. (In the original myth, Horus has several concubines. In my mythology, he married only Hathor, so this "wife" may end up being another woman in the household (servant, nurse) or a wife only in name.) (This has not been written.)

Imiut & Dua: Demigod Imiut faces the difficult decision of living a lie, or telling the truth and losing one he loves. (This has been retitled and written: Policy Of Truth)

I Shot An Arrow Into The Air...: Khenti Amenti steals Hathor's arrows and spends the day causing gods to fall in and out of love with each other. (This has been rewritten: I Shot An Arrow Into The Air...)

Kebehut: Anubis travels to earth and falls in love with a mortal whom he learns must die after giving birth to their child. (This has been rewritten: Kebehut)

Khenti Amenti & Kebehut: Khenti Amenti develops a crush on Kebehut, leading to a falling out with the overly protective Anubis. (This has not been written.)

Khnum & Sati: The potter god Khnum attempts to win the affections of the goddess Sati, who appears to have no interest in him. (This has been retitled and written: Blind To Love)

Maahes & Nephthys: Maahes accidentally falls in love with Nephthys--and of course has to deal with her jealous husband, Set! (This has not been written.)

The Name Of Ra: The goddess Isis poisons Ra in an attempt to learn his secret name; while he refuses, Kemet is plunged into blackness and chaos ensues, until he gives in. (This will end up a part of the novel City Of The Sun.)

Nemesis & Anubis: The goddess Nemesis falls in love with Anubis but cannot marry him; in anger and frustration she lays waste to Kemet. (Note: In the original version, after being refused to marry Anubis, Nemesis married Set, who compelled her to turn upon the Kemeti; in a rewrite Set will probably have to be omitted, Nemesis will not marry him, or else a different goddess will be involved. This story may be scrapped entirely although it is alluded to briefly in Kebehut.) (This has not been written.)

Policy Of Truth: See Imiut & Dua.

The Price Of Forgetfulness: Abused servant Asutet gets her revenge on her tormentors with the help of the river god Hapi, whose shrines have been neglected. (This has been rewritten: The Price Of Forgetfulness)

Ra & Sokar: The god Sokar appears seemingly from nowhere and challenges Ra to a fight. (This has not been written.)

Sakhmet & Ptah: The moon falls in love with the war goddess Sakhmet, and comes to her every night while she's sleeping. (This has been retitled and written: Something In The Moonlight)

Secret Children: See The Children Of Upuat.

Secrets & Lies: The son of Upuat, Isdes, discovers the unpleasant truth about his origins. (This is currently being written.)

She Is Yours: See The Daughter Of Set.

Sobek: Ra decides to have the god Sobek created to marry Hathor; the goddess sends Khenti Amenti to replace his heart with one of clay, so he cannot fall in love. (This has been retitled and rewritten: Sobek & Hathor)

Sobek & Hathor: See Sobek.

Sokar & Selket: Being stalked by the god Apesh with unwanted amorous intent, Selket turns to Sokar for protection. (This has not been written.)

Something In The Moonlight: See Sakhmet & Ptah.

Sovereignty: The gods have chosen Amon as their king, and Neith rebels, humiliating her son Ra; when he argues she disowns him. In grief he mutilates himself, but the action results in the creation of the gods Hu and Sia. (This has been rewritten: Sovereignty)

The Staff Of The Eight: The plight of the escaping humans after Hathor's destruction is revealed as they try to patch their shattered lives back together, while Thoth roams the country healing what people he can with his magic staff. (Note: The Staff of the Eight may occupy another story of its own.) (This will end up a part of the novel City Of The Sun.)

Surrender (non-neteru): After the great battle of Horus and Set, the captured Apsiu Kana have to decide whether to be banished to the western desert with their leader--or to stay within the city under their new king. (This has been written: Surrender)

'Tis Better To Have Loved: See Hathor & Horus.

The Trial Of Horus & Set: Horus and Set face the tribunal of the gods in an attempt to settle who the dispute of who should really rule over Kemet. (In the original myth, this was during the battle of Horus and Set. In my mythology, it must happen after Horus's legitimacy has been established, so Ra will have to change his mind on the issue, and Set will have to rebel.) (This has not been written.)

Upuat & Maat: Upuat and Maat are captured by an enraged Seii, who wishes to punish them in an attempt to get back at Thoth for imprisoning her. Upuat develops a plan to help them escape--but it isn't a very pleasant one. (This has not been written.)

Upuat's Birth: The god Upuat is born to Baal and Astarte, but according to custom they are not allowed to keep him. Baal orders the baby be abandoned, and a sorrowful Astarte takes him to Kemet, where she knows he will receive a home among the foreign gods. (This has been retitled and written: Birth Of A God)

Upuat's Escape: After imprisonment by the evil foreign goddess Seii for many years, Upuat manages to accidentally escape, and has to learn to live among the other neteru all over again. (This has been retitled and written: Escape)

Young Hathor: The young goddess Hathor first discovers how to make people fall in love, and tests her new skills upon her father. (This has been retitled and written: Baby Love)

These are all the ideas I have for now. I'm currently shopping around for others, which I'll add if they're interesting enough. So if you have ANY at all (following the guidelines given on the survey), please do share!

Off to see what I want to write next! :)
