Horsing Around

01-20-03 @ 6:33 pm EST

I thought that sometime it might be cool to introduce you to some of my really, REALLY old characters and things I used to write about. How would you like to hear about an old comic book series I created ages ago?

When I was little, one of my ongoing character sets was that of Horsey and his friends. They were stick-figure animals, and then there was a sort of companion set called The Wind and friends. I can still draw these characters, they're so simple. :) Let me see which ones I can remember.

Horsey McHorse He's a kid in school and is either white or some other sort of solid light color. He likes to mountain climb, as I had a special story planned once, "Horsey On Black Mountain" or some such; he wore those spikes/hooks on his hooves, *LOL* He lives with his mother, father, and little sister; I can't remember but he might have a baby brother too. He's very practical, levelheaded, and adventurous, and a good friend.

Cindy Mare I think that's her last name, but I could be wrong. She's Horsey's friend, a white or light-colored horse with black/dark spots. I think she also wears a ribbon. I can't remember much about her family life or personality (I don't think I developed her much, even though she was a main character), but I believe she's very forthright and independent, and hates being spoken down to just because she happens to be female.

Claud Blackhorse Again, I could be wrong on the last name. Claud is Horsey's best friend, though the two are about polar opposites in terms of personality. He's a black horse with a white nose and either wears glasses or just has a white pattern around his eyes like he's wearing glasses. He's very brainy, but also fussy and rather a whiner. He does NOT like adventuring like Horsey and Cindy, and would rather just read a book. He complains a lot and grouses about just about everything, and has a bit of an ego, but despite his faults he's a good friend to Horsey...who does manage to drag him out of the house sometimes.

Little Sister I can't remember Horsey's little sister's name, if in fact she ever had one. She's a few years younger than he is and wears little bows on her mane, about the equivalent of a toddler in human years. She's very sweet and though little siblings can often be a pain, Horsey dotes on her. Horsey may also have a baby brother in diapers, but I can't remember for certain. Once in a while, "Little Sister" joins Horsey on adventures--though usually on accident, I'm betting, since he would never want to endanger her like that! She is the same color as her older brother and the rest of her family.

Kinshomney Kinshomney (very weird name, I know) is a pegasus who lives atop a mountain, I believe. She's Horsey's friend as well, though she lives far away from him in a rather more magical land. She's older than him and his friends--an adult--and has three foals of her own, though for some reason, there was never any father given in my stories. (Hmmm.) She's white or light colored with large fluffy wings, and is fiercely independent, courageous, knowing, and loyal.

Kinshomney's Children I believe they each had a name that was just a vowel different from the others, but I can't recall what they were. She had these children sometime in the middle of all my stories, so they were not always with her. They are each a little duplicate of their mother, yet all are boys; their father is never named. They're cheerful and as independent and friendly as their mother, and curious as well. They're probably a little older than Little Sister.

Black Mountain Not a character, but a place. This is a large mountain not too far from where Horsey lives, in a village with other animals whose last names tend to end with the letters "Mc-" (McVillage? Har.) This mysterious mountain constantly draws Horsey's and Cindy's attention, and they, along with Claud and probably Kinshomney, finally set out to climb to its top and see what they can find. I never did complete this story, though there was supposed to be some sort of creature that lived up there, so Black Mountain would very much live up to its reputation.

There were of course plenty of other characters, but for some reason, unfortunately, these are the only ones I can remember from the Horsey series. Perhaps I should revive this sometime and add more. :) There was also The Wind and all his friends, but that is for another entry entirely...just thought you'd get a kick out of seeing what I used to write/draw about.

Tar...

I am yesterday; I know tomorrow.
