MY FAMILY WANTED TO TAKE A TRIP TO NORTH MANITOU ISLAND. IT IS WHERE MY GRANDMOTHER WAS RAISED AND WE WOULD REALLY LIKE TO FIND HER FAMILY'S GRAVE SITES AND SEE WHERE SHE WAS RAISED. WE HAD HEARD STORIES FROM HER WHEN SHE WAS STILL ALIVE AND IT SOUNDS LIKE AN AMAZING ISLAND. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION YOU COULD SEND US WE WOULD SURE APPRECIATE IT. WE WOULD ALSO LIKE SOME INFORMATION ON STAYING ON THE ISLAND. HER LAST NAME WAS WEBB. SO IF YOU FIND ANYTHING PLEASE CONTACT US.

THANK-YOU

CAROLYN SURA

The response I sent:

Hello,

I apologize, but my "Manitou Island" website, where I assume you got my e-mail address, is not about one of the real Manitou Islands. It is a fantasy story based on Mackinac Island, a completely different location. There is some information on the website itself explaining this. I have never been to any of the real Manitou Islands and so I do not have any information to give.

I would suggest going to Google and doing a search for North Manitou Island to find any relevant information.

Regards,

T.

What I am REALLY thinking of sending the NEXT time I get a stupid-ass e-mail like this:

Hey DUMBASS! You obviously have SOME brains so why not use them next time.

You had the brains to go to a search engine and type in "Manitou Island."

You had the brains to click on my result, which, at least at Google, is NOT the first result.

You had the brains to read the words "Manitou Island" on my webpage, and to scroll down and click on my e-mail.

The next time you visit, USE THOSE BRAINS to read the notice that says RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE, and the notice that says even FURTHER DOWN THE PAGE, that MY MANITOU ISLAND AND THE REAL MANITOU ISLANDS ARE NOT THE SAME F**KING PLACE!

Then click BACK on your browser, go to Google, type in "Manitou Island," and DO YOUR OWN DAMN SEARCH! I'M NOT A F**KING INFORMATION SERVICE, MORON!

Have a NICE DAY and thank you for completely wasting my time!

WHY what could pass for a simple misunderstanding now pisses me off so much?

The text on the MAIN PAGE of my site, WHICH I PUT UP because of repeated e-mails from people like this:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
"MANITOU ISLAND" VS. MACKINAC ISLAND VS. MANITOU ISLANDS

There has been some confusion regarding what island exactly I'm writing about. Please take note that this story is NOT about one of the real-life Manitou Islands! This serial is a fantasy story about an island based on the real-life Mackinac Island. It was given the name "Manitou" simply to go along with the Ojibwa theme, and has no relation to North Manitou Island, South Manitou Island, nor any other real-life Manitou Islands you may find on the map. If you want to find the "real" Manitou Island of this story, then do a search for MACKINAC Island. Sorry I have to stress this repeatedly; many new visitors to this site have e-mailed me asking about my experiences with the Manitou Islands, when I have never visited them. This is based on Mackinac Island; if you have any questions about my experiences with THAT location, then feel free to ask. ^_^

Sorry to rant on that for so long, but I hate the thought that I've misled anybody!

Honest to God, WHAT are these people doing when they click on my website, scroll down far enough to see the words "Manitou Island" and my e-mail address, and then e-mail me asking for information on the real-life Manitou Islands? They obviously have eyeballs, and they can obviously read and find their way around a website. WHY is it then that they cannot see the TWO times where I CLEARLY state that my site is NOT ABOUT F**KING MANITOU ISLAND?! How can they possibly think that it's a FACTUAL site when plastered all over it are the words FANTASY--SERIAL--STORIES--FICTION?! For God's sake, even when you bring it up at Google, you can't miss that it is NOT a factual site!:

My Google result:

Manitou Island
Welcome To The Island...
Description: The demon Dreamspinner has chosen the young Charmian to defend a magical interdimensional island from...
Category: Arts > Online Writing > Fiction > Genres > Fantasy
www.geocities.com/social_phobe/ - 2k - Cached - Similar pages

See? ONLINE WRITING! FICTION! FANTASY! FANTASY!!

Am I the only one who sees the words "magical interdimensional island" and thinks to myself, "Hm, maybe I will NOT have any luck doing a search for where my dead relatives were buried on North Manitou Island if I click on THAT result"?

Am I overreacting? Yes, I am. But for God's sake. When you have BLARING NOTICES right at the VERY TOP of your homepage, BEGGING people to please look and find out for themselves that this is NOT a factual site about North or South Manitou Island, and these idiots don't even bother to so much as CLICK on those links--when they can scroll down far enough to see my e-mail address, and compose an e-mail to me, and can't SOMEHOW figure out along the way that, hey, this doesn't look like a factual website--when you plainly say "THIS IS ABOUT MACKINAC ISLAND!!" as MANY ways as you possibly know how, and they STILL do not get it...don't you have the right to be PISSED OFF?

This is not the first such e-mail I've received. I do NOT know why people continue to visit my site and STILL think I'm some kind of repository for information on North and South Manitou Islands. For God's sake people, if you want the information that badly, use your f**king eyes and find it yourself!!

If this happens ONE MORE TIME I might just go ballistic on the person the way I did here. I am SO close. If people aren't willing to just BROWSE THE SITE FIRST to see if it gives them the info they need, then they should not be looking for info in the first place. Isn't it just common courtesy to check a site out BEFORE you e-mail the webmaster for info? *I* thought it was...judging by the number of e-mails I get begging for information on the Manitou Islands, I guess maybe I'm wrong! >:/

I am yesterday; I know tomorrow.
