One Thing Which Derails Into Another 02-08-05 @ 9:36 am EST Feeling eh today. :/ Won't go into it. I just wanted to update on my EFMI characters entry. I've since come up with a few more ideas for characters to add, nothing incredibly major. Firstly, I noticed that on my list of characters and potential characters I had the name Half Sky, though I had forgotten who this was supposed to be. o_o So I decided to recycle the name into a new character who I came up with just a day or so ago. Half Sky is a warrior Michinimakinong who plays the part of Niskigwun's love interest in the sequel...though to say much more would be giving things away. If you do not CARE for things to be spoiled (it doesn't spoil the plot, but it would probably spoil that chapter), then I have already written a Black Binder scene between the two of them...you can find it here... (For those who don't know, "Black Binder" pretty much means rated X. Yes, that is a romantic scene between the two of them.) I dunno, I've just had that feeling again lately and really wanted to write a scene with these two, so I pounded it out in one morning. I have an entire file full of unfinished Black Binder scenes... Ocryx/Nicolette 2 (Wherein the sentence "Come, take me, my great beautiful beast!" is used...*gag*) And that doesn't count the unfinished "Aku The Atrocious" (an Ameni Chronicles tie-in novella), and the "More Than You Can Chew" novellas "Leaves Falling" and "Fallen" (AKA "Bark One/Leaves Falling" and "Moon Wolf/Ocryana")...cripes I should just learn to finish things!! It's a wonder "Strayed" ever saw the light of day! >_< ) Um...wow, did this go offtrack. Let's start over, shall we? ...The new Michinimakinong love interest for Niskigwun is named Half Sky. Can't say much more without giving some spoilers, but if you don't mind them, the scene between the two of them is SOMEWHERE above. Now to get this entry back on PG-13 track... I had originally had ideas for an old man character named "No-Tongue," just this taciturn guy who lives in town with the fur traders. But I came up with a better idea and gave the name to a new character instead. No-Tongue is now a native character Charmian and Augwak encounter in the far north (they travel somewhat in this story) and whom Charmian mistakes for a Wendigo. Turns out he's just mute, and starving to death!! As before, can't say much more than that. His character's still being worked on. Lastly, there comes an as-yet unnamed character who is a djessakid (djessakeed), or "shaking tent doctor"--a type of medicine man who is supposed to communicate with the manitous with lots of shows of sleight of hand and such. This djessakid, however, is a fraud, and Stick-In-The-Dirt--a nanandawi, or tribal medicine man/bone-sucking doctor (i. e., a lot less showy)--knows it for sure, but can't prove it, since he has relatively weak powers and isn't held in nearly as high a standing as the unnamed guy. Charm commences trying to find a way to out him as a quack. This guy will be the stereotypical medicine man, all showy and full of himself and prone to fits of rage and threatening people with ill fortune (a lot like the wabano character Mishosha, only sans actual powers). I have not come up with the name of this guy yet, though I haven't put much thought into it, either... :/ Wow, look how I managed to make even THIS entry long and blathery... o_o There is also another voyageur character who I just can't come up with a name for...gotta think about that...anyway, sorry for that big segue from PG-13 into X-rated commentary there, didn't mean it to go that way. o_o; In even more boring news, my plan to print out my Mackinac photos on our own printer, using matte paper and natural color printing mode, has proven a bust. -_- The first cartridge did such a wonderful job on my photos, they looked so much better than printing even in photo mode! But it used up a LOT of ink...an entire $30+ cartridge, for just under 80 photos. And there are 216 pics in that set. *sigh* So we bought another cartridge, and...this one prints them like SH*T! STREAKY like I'm printing in auto mode! I tried aligning it twice and EVERYTHING! Stupid piece of overpriced underquality crap...I got so angry that I broke down crying, and pulled up Calculator, and comforted myself by figuring that it would be way cheaper to just print the damn things at Wal-Mart ANYWAY! Screw Lexmark! Ma was not enthusiastic but once I convinced her it would be like $100 cheaper, she didn't protest so much. Cripes already. If I'd only known. Well, I saved all my Mackinac pics to a CD and brought it in, but...their stupid computer only read the first 392 pictures on the CD! There are over 500! We tried it TWICE! I'm guessing their computer is only configured to read so many photos on a CD before it gives out--advice to those of you who bring in CDs with LOTS of pics on them. They could have at least had a sign TELLING users this! >:( So we had to go home without printing a thing. I saved only the 216 pics I was interested in doing first to another CD and Ma brought it in the next day. She came home with 80 prints. Turns out they cost not 25 cents, but 20 cents each when you have over 50 pics, so it would have been $16...but they gave them to her half off because the first time they printed them they did not come out and it took over an hour. So it cost her $8 to print 80 pics. CRIPES! At this rate, it should cost only $27.20 (not counting tax) to do the remaining 136! And they look JUST LIKE 35mm SHOTS! I could not believe it and still can't. They're glossy matte finish and everything, 4x6". Aside from a VERY slight kind of fuzziness that is totally attributable to them being digital and not film pics, they look just like they came from a 35mm camera. I didn't think they could do that! But now that I think of it, they probably use the exact same printing process they use on film photos. I'll have to look up how they process photo prints because I do not even know how they keep the ink from smearing. I know, I'm a moron. The ONLY thing that really bugs me is...they crop them for size!! So a substantial (to me) section of the top and bottom of each pic has been sliced off to make them 4x6! :*( I wanted my pics INTACT! Ma is completely cut out of one picture she was in. -_- *sigh* So that really bums me. But when I think of it, they probably do the same thing to make 35mm shots fit different print formats, wouldn't they? I'm just so used to my pics being printed out 3.5x4.5 or whatever that is (it's a weird size I'd get my 35mm shots in, smaller than 4x6), and not at 4x6 (the smallest size Wal-Mart offers), that I never even thought of how they got the same pictures to fit different print sizes. There's probably been a lot of cropping going on for a long time and I never would have noticed it because I never looked at the film. It's just too bad they couldn't find a way to make the pics a manageable size without resorting to cutting off big chunks of them. *sigh* But they turned out so nice aside from that that I really really want all my others printed out RIGHT NOW! And all my other shots too--even my 900+ sunsets...though that is hardly feasible, and not likely to ever happen. o_o But my Mackinac ones...I want them! But I have to wait. -_- So for those of you who have digital pics and are not sure whether it's worth the trouble of having a store print them out, go ahead and try it. It's just like getting photos developed, only a hell of a lot cheaper. (I hate to think of how much those 80 pics would have cost using TRADITIONAL methods of developing! *shudder*) And I could end this with something really...holy crap, my ear is making weird noises!! I didn't have anything else to say anyway so tar. o_o I am yesterday; I know tomorrow. <- Historic Moment - SPASTIC SPASMS OF SPASTACULAR JOY -> |
